isobutanol

Description

Isobutanol is a chemically reduced biofuel and commodity chemical that can be produced in Escherichia coli from pyruvate via a heterologous pathway involving ilvDC, budB, kivD, and adhA, with the consumption of one NADH and one NADPH. Its production is substantially enhanced in electron transport chain mutants due to an elevated intracellular NADH/NAD+ ratio and a reduced reliance on oxidative phosphorylation [356].
