3-hydroxypropanoate

Description

3-Hydroxypropionic acid is a value-added platform chemical and a versatile synthetic building block identified as one of the top materials to be produced from biomass for biorefineries [361]. This metabolite can be synthesized from the central metabolic intermediate malonyl-CoA through a one-step enzymatic conversion [64, 359]. Engineering strategies utilize biosensors, such as repurposed type III polyketide synthases, to facilitate the high-throughput screening of gene knockdown targets that increase the intracellular pool of malonyl-CoA, thereby optimizing the production of 3-hydroxypropionic acid [64].
