N1-acetylspermine

Description

N1-Acetylspermine is an acetylated polyamine derivative. It is synthesized through the acetylation of the polyamine spermine at the N1 position, representing the aminopropyl end, a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme spermidine/spermine N1-acetyltransferase (SSAT). Within cells, N1-acetylspermine serves as a substrate for further acetylation by SSAT to yield N1,N12-diacetylspermine, or it can undergo oxidative cleavage by peroxisomal acetylpolyamine oxidase (APAO) to form N-acetylaminopropanal and spermidine, thereby participating in the polyamine back-conversion pathway [366].
