hypoxanthine
Description
Hypoxanthine is a purine base and a by-product of inosine monophosphate (IMP) biosynthesis and degradation in Escherichia coli. It can be recycled to IMP via the salvage pathway by hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT), and its accumulation during fermentation reduces IMP yield [341].
