OhmK encodes a putative tryptophan 4-hydroxylase implicated in the biosynthesis of the cyclic depsipeptides ohmungusamycins A and B in the marine bacterium Streptomyces sp. SNJ042. However, when heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli, OhmK did not exhibit detectable tryptophan 4-hydroxylase activity under the experimental conditions evaluated [339].
