NdDDC, derived from Nisaea denitrificans, encodes an L-dopa decarboxylase that preferentially catalyzes the decarboxylation of hydroxylated aromatic amino acids, including L-dopa and 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), while displaying minimal activity toward tryptophan. In vivo assays further demonstrated that NdDDC is capable of catalyzing the decarboxylation of 4-hydroxytryptophan (4-HTP) [339].
