Silencing or replacing the PEP:sugar phosphotransferase system (PTS) to increase phosphoenolpyruvate availability can be achieved through the combined overexpression of galP (galactose permease) and glk, thereby enabling glucose uptake and phosphorylation using ATP instead of PEP [342, 343].
